Best of 2011 - Not a good year for the bad guys

2011 was also a year that will not be remembered fondly by the World´s dictators and terrorists. All in all, I count 8 guys who have either left this world in 2011 or were captured and will spend the rest of their lives behind bars.

  • Osama Bin Laden – Killed in a basement after spending 10 years in hiding
  • Ratko Mladic – Arrested and currently on trial after 16 years in hiding
  • Muhammar Khaddafi – Deposed after 42 years in power and killed while hiding in a sewer
  • Zine El Abidine Ben Ali – Deposed after 23 years in power
  • Kim Jong Il – Dead after 17 years in power
  • Hosni Mubarak – Deposed after 29 years in power and currently on trial
  • Laurent Gbagbo – Arrested and currently on trial after 11 years in power
  • Ali Abdullah Saleh – Deposed after 33 years in power

In all honesty, none of them will be missed – they will all be footnotes in History, remembered by their ability to destroy and to cause harm. Which is ironic as they all aspired at eternal glory, at being forever regarded as heroes of their own causes. Pathetic losers, i say!

As a piece of advice to all of you other dictators that are still out there – and some of you may even read my blog – I leave you with Nelly Furtado in all her wisdom… Get the f*** out!!

Best of 2011- Best Song: En Tus Tierras Bailaré

As the year comes to an end, it is time to look back and identify what made 2011 a special year. When it comes to music, it is easy for me to isolate the music/video with most impact:

This song has everything!!! It brings together several age groups, as the performers range from the teenager Pequeña Wendy, to the veteran Tigresa del Oriente; it brings together different cultures as the South American artists are desperate to visit Israel.

The dancing is beautiful, with moves never seen before. Here it is important to highlight the "pasito de Delfín", a move that only Delfin can do and that would make Shakira blush! In almost every screen shot, the connection between man and nature is brought to the viewer through the presence of an exotic animal, may it be a camel, a llama, a monkey or a chicken. When on the boat, Tigresa sings while having Pequeña Wendy hovering the sides of the boat and even standing on water, a miraculous display on any accounts.

Why in the hell these people are so keen on going to Israel is a mystery never fully explained to the viewer. But we don´t really need to know why, all we need is to feel their honest desire in crossing the world to reach Israel and its lovely people! (really??...)

So, my friends, I share with you what is probably the most astonishing and revolutionary piece of musical art that i witnessed in 2011: En tus tierras bailaré. Enjoy!
